Stella’s Winemaker Dinner Series, featuring five-course meals designed by Chef Jacob Burton, kicks off on June 17 with winemaker Ray Coursen from Elyse Winery. Additional dates and winemakers will be announced. Each dinner costs $95 plus tax and gratuity.
Cedar House also will host a guided Hiking Series starting June 18 with a hike on the Rubicon Trail, Endurance Lunch and transportation for $65 to $85 per person, depending on the location. Hikes also will be offered July 2 to Ellis Peak, Shirley Canyon on July 23, Mountain Judah Loop on Aug. 27 and Donner Summit to Squaw on Sept. 3.
The Forgotten Feast with Hank Shaw, author of “Hunt, Gather, Cook: Finding the Forgotten Feast,” is on July 16. The Forgotten Feast begins with cocktails and a book signing by Shaw at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by a five-course tasting menu inspired by Shaw’s book for $75, plus tax and service, and includes cocktails and wine.
The Active Gourmand Tour is the perfect four-day adventure for hikers who love to cook. The Tour, available July 17 to 21 and Aug. 7 to 11, is for those that love the outdoors and have a true passion for food and wine. Enjoy day hikes followed by an early evening cooking class and wine dinner. Chef Jacob Burton will guide participants through a multi-course culinary on seasonal cooking in a professional kitchen. The cost is $1,800 for double occupancy and includes lodging, all meals, guides, transportation, cooking instructions and wine. The cost is $1,299 per person without lodging.
There will be cooking demonstrations on July 23 and Aug. 20. Summer Canapés and Appetizers on July 23 features the basic composition of bite-sized hors d'oeuvres, garnish and plating with four different wines from California.
During the Composed Salads Demonstration on Aug. 20, learn to mix flavorful vinaigrettes and select specialty greens for an exceptional salad mix. Techniques for proper storage of salad greens will be discussed and the class features four wines from four different continents. Recipes for Stella Classics like butter lettuce, mixed greens, duck confit and heirloom tomato salads will be explored. Each cooking demonstration includes wine, taste and lunch. The classes take place at Stella from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and each class is $55, plus tax.
